How the final exam calculator works
Your course grade is a weighted average: your current score counts for everything except the final, and the final counts for its weight. The calculator reverses the formula to find the one unknown โ the final score you need.
Needed on final = (Desired โ Current ร (1 โ Weight)) รท Weight
The higher the final's weight, the more power it has to move your grade โ in both directions. A 40%-weighted final can rescue a shaky semester or sink a comfortable one, which is exactly why this calculation matters before you start studying.
Worked example
Your current score is 80%, the final is worth 40%, and you want an 85% overall. Needed = (85 โ 80 ร 0.6) รท 0.4 = (85 โ 48) รท 0.4 = 92.5%. That's a tough but doable target โ roughly an A โ so plan your study time accordingly. If the answer had come out above 100%, you'd know the goal is out of reach and could aim for the next grade down instead.
Using the target-grade picker
Don't think in percentages? Pick your target grade from the dropdown and the calculator fills in a typical percentage for it (for example, an A maps to about 93%). It's an estimate โ your school's exact cutoffs may differ slightly โ but it's close enough for planning.
